Used with a Rain Gage to improve Precipitation “Catch”
Placing the windscreen around the rain gage diminishes updrafts around the rain gage funnel. Wind is deflected by the inward movement of the windscreen leaves. The design generates turbulent air patterns across the top of the rain gage causing rain to fall into the rain gage funnel rather than being blown past the gage.
The posts are sized so that the top of the windscreen is within one inch of the top of the rain gage. For best results, the top edge of the rain gage funnel should be ½” to 1” below the top edge of the windscreen leaves.
Most windscreens are installed onto a concrete pad that also supports the raingage
